The Captain Ron Journey Begins...
If you like tight perfect harmonies, then let me introduce you to one of the Midwest's premier vocal bands... Captain Ron!
Here is their story;
Ron, Randy and Ted are Captain Ron!
Just about 10 years ago, Ron Lay and Ted Dossett, two of the members of Captain Ron, met at the already
All three of the members of Captain Ron grew up playing and singing in bands since their teen age years.
Randy grew up playing music in the Bloomington, Illinois area. He played in numerous popular local bands through the years (such as Alesha, Radio Bandits, Preview and Back@cha) covering many types of music. Music is deeply imbedded in his life. Randy's musical roots go back to his childhood and family. Randy's father Don, and his brothers Lynn and Rex all played professionally. Randy has played music for over 50 years. Randy's vocals both as vocalist and his unbelievable harmonies are part of what makes Captain Ron unique. Randy is the bass player, vocalist and music arranger in the band.
Ted also grew up playing music in the Bloomington, Illinois area beginning with a talent show in 8th grade (that he fuzzily seems to remember they won), which was when his dad decided to buy him his first real set of drums. His passion for music which he believes he got from his mother, has helped make music an integral part of his life. Ted has played in numerous bands from The Cobblestones back in the 60's to Alesha in the 70's to the last 10 years with Captain Ron. Ted loves many types of music and for the last 25+ years has also been playing drums, percussion and singing in church. His ear for harmony is amazing and helps make Captain Ron the premier vocal band that it is. Ted is the drummer and vocalist in the band.
Ron grew up in the Midwest and performed as a singer/songwriter and played in numerous bands. He moved south after college to the Atlanta, Georgia area where he worked for State Farm. Ron continued to play in various bands and solo acts including popular local cover bands, country and blue grass bands as well as performing his original music. He placed as a finalist in the Marlboro Country Music Awards at the same time that the then young and getting started Alan Jackson also placed. Ron would travel to Nashville on the weekends to play and record tracks for songwriters that needed someone to sing their tunes. He was actually showcased at the Cannery in Nashville with Lee Greenwood and Big Al Downing as his guests. He continued to live in Atlanta area until 1998 when he was transferred to Bloomington, Illinois due to advancement opportunities by his employer. He stopped performing publicly for several years until as fate would have it, his musical path would cross with Ted and Randy's and Captain Ron took shape. Ron is the rhythm guitar player, central vocalist and songwriter in the band.
Through the years, Captain Ron has continued to evolve with their music and smooth harmonizing vocals all the while building a solid and appreciative fan base. Their Fans are considered their friends and they take playing great music and providing some good fun for all of them as the priority! You will never meet a nicer bunch of guys with a passion for making great music you will want to hear again and again! You just don't hear harmonies or voices that blend anywhere - locally or nationally, like these 3 guys!
